With the beginning of April 2020 has come a very uncertain time for our children. With children being transitioned to home learning amid the Covid 19 crisis; now more than ever children need time and space to connect to themselves and families and familiarity as much as possible.
Instead of endless academic activities, give children some time to adapt and adjust to the rhythm of this new way of life that may be around for some time. Give them space to be, however they are each day. Emotions will be flying and now is a great time to teach children to identify what they are experiencing in their body, connect it to emotions and give them tools to manage appropriately. Mindfulness can help. Contrary to what some people think, it doesn't mean having a full mind or on the other end of the spectrum having NO thoughts or feelings. It simply means paying attention, on purpose, to our experience, with no judgement. What a beautiful tool to teach our children. I'll be posting some Mindfulness activities that can be done at home over the coming weeks. Remember, the intention is to simply plant a seed. We can never know the effect of teaching these tools until we see our children use them when they need them. With love and well wishes, Lisa
